Abstract
MEJIAS ALCAZAR, Alina; FILGUERAS GAMEZ, Juana; VAZQUEZ CASTILLO, Maira and PAGEZ, Flabio. Characterization of vocational guidance of the students wishing to apply for the medical career. Educ Med Super [online]. 2013, vol.27, n.4, pp. 374-384. ISSN 0864-2141.
Vocational guidance is a priority task in Cuba and the medical career is not exempted from this process that has varied several times due to curricular changes. Some students still prefer the previously designed traditional curriculum. The authors of this research study believes that the students who wish to apply for the medical career, their teachers and relatives generally lack suitable information about the new formative model, as a result of inadequate vocational guidance, and therefore, the objective of this paper was to characterize it. Some surveys were administered to students and to professors who were directly linked to the formative process. The results were as follows: the students did not receive adequate vocational guidance prior to entering their career; the professor assessed the vocational guidance as poor, and although the methodology for the vocational guidance work is well-defined at higher levels, the opposite occurs at lower levels. The study suggested the implementation of a plan to strengthen the vocational guidance directed to students who wish to apply for the medical career.
