Abstract

ALVAREZ LOPEZ, Alejandro  and  GARCIA LORENZO, Yenima. The arthroscopic treatment of knee osteoarthritis: myth or reality?. Rev Cubana Ortop Traumatol [online]. 2007, vol.21, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3100.

A bibliographic review and an analysis on the controversial topic of arthroscopy in patients with knee osteoarthritis were made. A historical account was made and the physiopathology of the pain was briefly analyzed. The articular washout and the debridement as a modality of the arthroscopic treatment were mentioned and their indications were specified. The statements of some authors against the procedure were also discussed. Reference was made to the procedures of cartilage formation, the role of meniscectomy and the possible placebo effect of arthroscopy.

Keywords : KOA-knee osteoarthritis; arthroscopic treatment.
