Abstract

A retrospective study of 66 patients operated on of esotropias by the technique of recession of the medial rectus with measurement starting from the limbus was conducted at the Service of Binocular Vision of "Ramón Pando Ferrer" Ophthalmoloigc Teaching Hospital. All the patients underwent a preoperative assessment of the visual acuity with its correction, fixation and deviation angle and a postoperative evaluation of the deviation angle at 3 months and at a year. It was found that 38 patients (57.5 %) were congenital esotropias. On concluding the postoperative assessment after a year, orthotropia was attained in 67 % of the cases and 26 % were aesthetically acceptable.
