A bibliographic review on the updating of the dioptric power calculation of the intraocular lens (IOL) was made.The different generations of formulas used for calculating are reported, the parameters and variables influencing on the calculation erros are evaluated and criteria are offered for making decisions at the time of selecting the dioptric power of the lens. The study was conducted in 250 eyes at the Biometry Departrment of "Hermanos Ameijeiras" Hospital.
