Abstract

PEREZ GONZALEZ, Henry; GARCIA CONCHA, Yanet  and  ZOZAYA ALDANA, Beatriz. Pseudoexfoliative syndrome and the cataract surgery. Rev Cubana Oftalmol [online]. 2012, vol.25, n.2, pp.303-311. ISSN 0864-2176.

A literature review was made to present the main aspects of the cataract surgery in patients with pseudoexfoliative syndrome. The main scientific articles of the past ten years related to the topic were searched, and the most relevant contents were selected for the preparation of the final report. It was found that the pseudoexfoliation syndrome is a systemic pathology associated with high risk of complications during the cataract surgery mainly due to the weakness of the zonular support and the pupilar insufficient dilation. By means of a careful preoperative exam and an appropriate surgical technique, adequately assessed by the surgeon, the rate of complications during and after the surgical procedure may be significantly reduced.

Keywords : exfoliative syndrome; cataract; cataract extraction.
