This essay was elaborated with the purpose of reflecting on some of the references provided by science and technology to achieve, through medical-social actions, greater efficacy in the primary prevention of diabetic retinopathy. The role of primary health care in the integration of social entities for the control of risk factors in diabetic patients was taken into account.
