Abstract

ADOLFO GERARDO, Álvarez Pérez; GARCIA FARINAS, Anaí  and  BONET GORBEA, Mariano. Conceptual and methodological guidelines to explain determinants of health in Cuba. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2007, vol.33, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3127.

The emergence of the model of health fields proposed by Laframboise in 1973 and brilliantly developed in Lalonde Report in 1974, with the objective of giving an explanation of Canadians´ health, undoubtedly revolutionized contemporary public health since it had a conceptual and operative impact on the way of approaching and explaining the health levels in the populations and therefore, the way of formulating health policies. The present article addressed the topic of fields and determinants of health as a discipline of Public Health, delved into their history, concepts and experience to get to formulate an alternative model proposal that clarifies this approach from the Cuban health reality perspective, and laid the foundations for a study elucidating present determinants of the population's health levels as a contribution to the improvement of the present Cuban public health care.

Keywords : Health; population health; human health ecosystem; health levels; health fields; health level determinants; Cuba.
