Abstract

ROMERO SANCHEZ, Ramón Ezequiel et al. Organ transplantation in Cuba: an expression of intersectoral work in the clinical area. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2014, vol.40, n.4, pp. 412-421. ISSN 0864-3466.

The organ and tissue transplantation currently remains one of the state-of-the-art technologies in the health care sector. Unfortunately, many professionals in the health care system still regard this activity as something of which they are small part and not as a set of interlinked factors that comprise various sectors out of the health care field. Intersectoral work is indispensable in many non-medical areas such as transportation and communications. The objective of this paper was to make emphasis on the intersectoral nature of transplantation on the basis of individual practical experience, to show the lack of due recognition of the intersectoral nature of this activity by the health professionals and the scarcity of publications on the topic, and to express ideas and the global vision of the undeniable relationship between transplants and intersectoral actions. The intersectoral work is a technological working tool used and considered by health managers and service providers in the field of transplantation in Cuba, although it should and can improve even more its potentialities, knowledge and use.

Keywords : intersectoral work; public health; organ and tissue transplantation; Cuba.
