Abstract

GONZALEZ, Ivonne et al. MOLECULAR VARIABILITY OF PEPPER GENOTYPES (Capsicum annuum L.) BELONGING TO THE GENETIC BREEDING PROGRAM FOR RESISTENCE TO PVY. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2011, vol.26, n.2, pp. 69-73. ISSN 1010-2752.

Genetic improvement programs are an alternative to obtain pepper genotypes resistant to several diseases. The wide genetic variability of these genotypes makes them promissory for the control of Potato virus Y (PVY). The RAPD markers are a useful tool to characterize the genetic diversity of pepper varieties. The aim of this work was to evaluate the genetic variability of pepper genotypes obtained in the breeding program for PVY resistance using RAPD markers. In general, the results showed a low variability between the genotypes studied.

Keywords : PVY; genetic variability; RAPD; Capsicum annuum.
