Abstract

CASTELLANOS, L et al. Incidence of Phytophthora spp. on potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) in Horquita Varied Crops Enterprise. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2011, vol.26, n.2, pp. 125-128. ISSN 1010-2752.

The investigation aimed to compare the incidence of Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) De Bary and Phytophthora nicotianae Breda de Haan on the potato crop in The Horquita Enterprise of Varied Crops, Cienfuegos, Cuba. For that, the information on the two pathologies was obtained from the samplings carried out weekly in potato fields by the Yaguaramas Plant Protection Station. Phytophthora nicotianae impacted in all the growing seasons studied, becoming an endemic disease, while Phytophthora infestans was present only in two seasons with an epidemic behaviour, affecting a larger area and reaching a wider distribution and higher intensity. The results showed a decrease of the incidence frequency of P. infestans and the occurrence of P. parasitica in all the season which were associated with the climatic change, forcing the Horquita Enterprise to adequate the first pathology management and to establish a different management strategy for the second one, taking into account resistant varieties, crops rotation, sanitation measures and the meteorological conditions.

Keywords : potato; disease; Phytophthora nicotianae; Phytophthora infestans.
