Abstract

RIVAS, Aramis et al. Heliothis tergeminus (Felder and Rogenhofer), a new pest species in tobacco in Cuba. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2015, vol.30, n.1, pp. 77-80. ISSN 2224-4697.

The purpose of this study was to determine the presence of the species of the Heliothis complex in the tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) crop grown under the sun in Las Tunas province, Cuba. For the investigation, the adults used were those obtained from the larvae collected in the experimental plots of three tobacco cultivars (Havana-92, Havana-2000 and IT-2004) during three tobacco campaigns. The use of dicotomic keys and the development of studies of the wing desing , chetotaxy of 450 larvae and the genitalia of 280 male adults allowed notifying the presence of the species Heliothis tergeminus (Felder and Rogenhofer) in Cuba for the first time. It was also the first report of this species for the tobacco crop in the country.

Keywords : Heliothis tergeminus; lepidoptera; tobacco; Cuba.
