Abstract

RAMIREZ, Susana  and  SURIS, Moraima. Life cyle of Acanthoscelides obtectus (Say.) on black beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) under laboratory conditions. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2015, vol.30, n.2, pp. 158-160. ISSN 2224-4697.

Some parameters of the biology of Acanthoscelides obtectus (Say.) were studied on black bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) var. BAT-304 under laboratory conditions at 26.20 ± 2.03°C of temperature and 87,37± 9,03% of relative humidity. For this, a couple of insects were placed into each of ten glass flasks with ten beans for 24 h. Then the insects were transferred to new flasks, an action that was repeated daily during four days. The eggs laid in each flask were examined daily until larva emergence and the adults obtained removed and observed until their death. Under the conditions of this study, A. obtectus development cycle was of 33.23 ± 1.78 days (the egg stage 5.60 ± 0.49 days and the larva-pupa stages 27.63 ± 1.60 days), and the time to complete its life cycle was 47.79 ± 4.42 days.

Keywords : Acanthoscelides obtectus; life cycle; warehouse pests; Phaseolus vulgaris.
