Abstract

NODARSE, Maité; CASTELLANOS, Leónides; HERRERA, Noslén  and  MORFA, Maykel. Molluscicide action against Praticolella griseola (Pfeiffer) of extracts of three species of the Agavaceae family. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2017, vol.32, n.2, pp. 00-00. ISSN 2224-4697.

The mollusks have become a serious problem as pests of vegetables in many regions of the world, and in Cuba, particularly where vegetables are cultivated under the semi protected technology. The investigation aims to evaluate the in vitro molluscicide action of extracts of three species of the Agavaceae family (Agave americana L., Agave legrelliana J., and Furcraea hexapetala J.) against Praticolella griseola (Pfeiffer). Three assays were carried out to determine the molluscicide effect of the juice of the three plant species, and other three assays with extracts obtained with fractions of the leaves. Totally randomized designs with four repetitions were used. Snail mortality was compared among the treatments within each plant at seven, ten, and fifteen days. The extracts of the three plant species (A. americana, F. hexapetala, and A. legrelliana) were effective against P. griseola after seven days of their application at the minimum dissolution studied (12.5 %), depending on the way the extracts were obtained; thus, they were considered good candidates for deeper studies

Keywords : Agave americana; Agave legrelliana; Furcraea hexapetala.
