Abstract
LLANES, Violeta; GONZALEZ, Esteban; MEDEROS, Dagoberto and RODRIGUEZ, Héctor. Perception of Phaseolus vulgaris L. producers of training needs on pests. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2019, vol.34, n.1 Epub Apr 01, 2019. ISSN 2224-4697.
The objective of this work was to determine the training needs of producers and technicians dedicated to the cultivation of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in different production scenarios of the province Mayabeque, Cuba. With this purpose, a survey was applied to producers. The data were processed by means of Microsoft Excel © 2003 electronic spreadsheets; the frequencies of answer appearance were determined, and the multiple comparisons of proportions and the χ2 test of independence were applied. It was found that some alternative for pest control is applied in only 54 % of the farms, and that 100 % of them resort to chemical control, with little use of agroecological practices and little knowledge of the services offered by the ecosystem. These results showed a lack of information and training of the producers concerning pest management. Only 16 % of the respondents had received education and training in pest, including the absence of a state agricultural extension service in the sector, causing the efforts to bring scientific results to producers to be insufficient.
