Abstract

During centuries the librarian had managed the information resources. The social, historical and practical needs had given a special tint to this profession nowadays: the information society, where certainly occupy an important place. Many authors, articles and events are devoted to information professionals. Aimed at identifying the several angles, requirements weakness of information professionals, a review of literature available on this topic from 1991 to 2003 was carried out. The wellknown search engine Google and Ciencias de la Información journal published by the Techological and Scientific Information Institute. Several angles were found, arising from the new challenges that information professionals are facing, as well as many requirements as a consecuence of the change of function from passive intermediate to a creator of added value information.
