Abstract

RODRIGUEZ SANCHEZ, Yaniris; MESA FLEITAS, María Elena  and  SOLORZANO ALVAREZ, Ernestina. Cubaciencia and Cumed: two sources for the obtention of bibliometric indicators sources in the health field. ACIMED [online]. 2006, vol.14, n.5. ISSN 1024-9435.

In order to determine the coverage of the printed scientific publications published by the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, whose national databases were made by Cubaciencia and Cumed from 2000 to 2004, a bibliometric study was carried out. The Revista Cubana de Medicina General Integral, the Revista Cubana de Medicina and the Revista Cubana de Medicina Tropical were the most productive, with 55.51 % of articles published. Of the 843 articles published by the selected magazines, Cubaciencia registered 297, accounting for 35.23 % of the total of the studied sample. Cumed, on the other hand, processed 644 articles (76,39 %). This is a higher coverage, but it is not total yet. The most productive institutions were “Dr Luis Diaz Soto” Higher Military Medicine Institute, “Pedro Kourí” Tropical Medicine Institute and the National Institute of Angiology and Vascular Surgery The coverage of both databases includes only 55.87 % of the total of published articles. It implies a serious limitation for the access, use and diffusion of the scientific achievements of the Cuban authors in the health area by means of these databases.
