Abstract

GONZALEZ GUITIAN, María Virginia  and  MOLINA PINEIRO, Maricela. University Libraries: brief approach to their new settings and challenges. ACIMED [online]. 2008, vol.18, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1024-9435.

University libraries are facing new challenges to their management due, among other causes, to the changes experienced by the higher education systems that require other ways of teaching and learning. In this context, the work methods and styles of these institutions that for centuries have contributed to the education and acquisition of new knowledge should be adapted. An overview is made of the new challenges faced by university libraries and the need to turn them into learning and research centres. Their role in the higher education sphere in Europe is specially analyzed, as well as the quality and evaluation topics.

Keywords : University libraries; information services; learning and research resource centres (LRRC).
