Abstract

Politics and science and technology management are decesive in the strategic development of every country and they should answer the social and economic demands. Therefore, the creation of indicators reflecting the convergence of science and technology with social development is particularly important for the developing countries. This research offers an overview of the indicators to measure the activity of science and technology at the international level. The role of the metric disciplines in scientific assessment, the standardization of statistics in science and technology all over the world, as well as the evaluation systems in force in Cuba are defined. Finally, some considerations on the challenges faced by scientific assessment are made.
