Abstract

A cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted in the "Eusebio Hernández" Gynecology-Obstetrics Hospital from Marianao municipality from September 1, 2008 to October 31, 2009 to determine the professionals' knowledge related to the use of searchers and of specialized databases, as well as of the collaboration software as part of their daily work. The health professionals from such hospital center were the study group according to their knowledges on information alphabetization necessary for their professional performance. The study variables included: knowledge and use of searchers if they are able to use the advanced searchs options, if they know and use the Web 2.0 collaboration software. As statistical method the observation, data collection and documentary analysis were used. The main results were: most of professionals not apply the advanced search options, the access to most of databases is meager due to their lack of knowledge of them and was very significant that 92 users (76,6%) neither know and nor used the collaboration software. We conclude that most of professionals lack of knowledge on the bibliographic data, the Web 2.0 collaboration software and the significance of advanced searchs. It was confirmed the lack of competences related to management and use of scientific-technical information.
