Abstract
SANTANA ALVAREZ, Jorge. Acoustic trauma among soldiers and officers operating tanks and heavy pieces of artillery. AMC [online]. 1998, vol.2, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1025-0255.
Hearing impairments caused by acoustic trauma have proved to be more frequent among soldiers and officers operating tanks and heavy pieces of artillery. Those officers in command of such guns, together with drivers were the most affected group. Factors such as time of exposure, intensity of noise, and subjects`positions when firing also seem to play a big role in the severity of this condition. The most frequent sympthoms were excessive fatigue and acoustic hallucinations. Acoustic trauma in the left ear were more frequent among soldiers firing heavy pieces of artillery, whereas those soldiers firing from tanks were mostly affected in their fight ears.
