Abstract

A cross sectional descriptive and observational study was performed with the aim of characterizing deceased diabetic patients in Manuel Ascunce Domenech Provincial Hospital of Camagüey during 1992 to 1996. For this purpose, the study universe rose to 186 deceased patients. The primary source of data was obtained from clinical record and protocols of necropsies. The obtained data were processed through packages of statistical programs MICROSTAT and EPIDAT. Women had greater number of deceased with 61, 3 %. The causes of death from macroangiopathy were in decreasing order. The acute myocardial infarction, cerebrovascular disease and pulmonary embolism. Non insuline dependent patients had presented in 46, 8% of deceased patients and hypercholesterolemia in 21, 5%.
