Atheroesclerosis is a complex, multi causal disease, ancient like the man and with a title known ethiopathogenia. With the aim of ellaborating a synthetic methoc with current criterio about pathogenesis of this disease, this bibliografic review was carried out. The following conclusions were reached: the caracteristc histopatologic picture of type of atheroesclerotic lesion is: a) fatty streaks characterized by focal fatty deposits in the arterial intimal tunica with little or none elevation, of natural yellow color, or red color when dyeing with Sudán IV, without other changes or alterations? b) fibrous plate: increased intimal lesion, strong, of ligth gray color, brigth and translucid: after coloring the artery with Sudán IV it may be covered partially or completely by sudanophils deposits? c) severe plate: characterized by an area of the intimal layer with one or some of the following complications: ulceration, hemorrhage, thrombosis, calcification. Atheroesclerosis as a defensive, compulsory response of the arterial wall connective tisuue with the corresponding defensive tissular reaction in the invaded zone characterized by phenomena of inflamatory and inmunity responses. The alternation of endothelium permeability provokes the entrance of lipoproteins of low density (LDL) in groups to the subendothelial space where they are ingested by macrophage and muscular smooth cells (CML)? those provoking enlarging of the lesion wicht protrusión to the arterial lume, are turned into foom cells.
