Abstract

A descriptive study was performed in 60 patients with simple chronic glaucoma for knowing their individual characteristics, level of anxiety and pathopsychological field. The test of 16 factors of personality, IPAT anxiety scale and an individual psychosocial interview were used. The group of studied patients was characterized by reserved, emotive, with poor emotional stability, group dependent, tense, frustrated persons who presented high anxiety levels. The prevailing pathopsychological field stressed those symptoms of anxiety, sadness, sleeplessness, irritability and asthenia. The incidence of antecedents of psychic disorders was high in patients and their family. Personal conflicts were the most significant. Among psychiatric diseases, sleep disorders and diverse neurotic disorders prevailed.
