Abstract
CARBAJALES LEON, Ana Isabel; ACOSTA VALDES, María Antonia; LOPEZ LASTRE, Guadalupe and CARBAJALES LEON, Emma B. Irrational use of the emergency analyses. AMC [online]. 2002, vol.6, n.2, pp. 171-179. ISSN 1025-0255.
The levels of use of laboratory analyses in the emergency lab (Emergency Department) of Manuel Ascunce Provincial Hospital of Camagüey during 2000 were evaluated. Internists used our service with higher frequency. The searching of asymptomatic diseases, surveillance tests too frequently and gratification were the causes that strongly influenced in the unsuited use of lab tests. During the evaluated year, 23 665 patients were assisted and 33 491 analyses were performed with a positivism of 33 %; moreover, determinations that after performing them, their results were not registered (552). Unfortunately, tests that measure levels of use of lab determinations are insufficient; however, it is necessary to rationalize the use of available resources, since although they are insufficient they are not adequately used.
