Abstract

A longitudinal, retrospective study of a universe of 1,610 patients admitted in the service of medicine at Manuel Ascunce Domenech Provincial Hospital of Camagüey province, whitin the period from January 1990 to January 200º , with the diagnosis of fever of unkown origin (FUO) was carried out. Fourty five patients were randomly selected that constituded the study material, all adjusted to the established criterio by Petersdorf and Beeson. Group distribution, as to its etiology was infections, 64, 1 %; neoplasms, 17, 6 % and connectivopathies, 4, 4 % and finally in six patients (13, 3 %) it was not possible to show the fever cause. The following parameters were analyzed and discussed: etiology, age group, sex, race, origin, semiologic type of fever, as well as the clinical findings and main complementary exams for brucellosis and tuberculosis.
