A case and control study was performed for analyzing incidence, as well as risk and complications of pregnancy and labor in adolescence, at Sta Curz del Sur municipality hospital, from January 1st to December 1999. As study group, 132 adolescent that gave birth in this stage, were taken, and they were compared with a control of 132 gestants of 20 years -old or over who delivered on this date. This information was gathered from medical records of patients and from labor book and it was reflected in surveys. Low maternal birthweigth was present in 59, 8 % of adolescents, 87, 1 % of them were home workers, 78 % presented some illnesses during pregnancy, 78 % of these gestants and their products sufferred greater number of complications, besides, complications postpartum for the mother are associated with higher frequency. This study showesus all risk that a preganancy carries at these ages that si why we insist on the importance of minimally diminishing these pregnancies.
