Abstract

NUNEZ RODRIGUEZ, Lisbet María. Functional capacity in the aged with hip fracture. AMC [online]. 2002, vol.6, suppl.2, pp.858-866. ISSN 1025-0255.

A prospective cross-sectional study with a universe of 341 patients oparated for hip fracture in the Orthopedic and Traumatology service at Salvador Allende hospital, Havana city, during the period from April 1 st 1999 to April 1st 2000, was performed . The sample comprised 94 patients (24, 6 %), over 60 years-old residents in Cerro municipality. There was prevalence de osteosynthesis material as surgical modality (73, 40 %) begining with deambulation 30 patients after the fifth week. It was achiewed early deambulation in 12 patients with the use of endoprosthesis material. In the functional capacity, instrumented activity (Lawton) was seen affected in relation to the non-instrumented (Katz), increasing dependance in 23 patients versus 15, respectively.
