Abstract

RODILES MARTINEZ, Félix. The ingestion of foreign bodies: A challenge for the surgeon. AMC [online]. 2003, vol.7, n.6, pp. 708-717. ISSN 1025-0255.

The medical record of patients urgently admitted I the General Surgery word at the Military Clinical Surgical Teaching Hospital of Camagüey, from July ST, 1981 to July 31 ST, 2001, was received. The ingestion of ingestion of foreign bodies is an unfrequent event in the adult who do not suffer from psychiatric disorders. Characteristics of these patients, their motivations and behavior followed are stressed. Out of the 19 medical records reviewed, 4 were excluded because they did not show the ingestion of foreign bodies. The 15 patients a penitentiary centre; with the age from 18 to 23 years. The only reason for the autoagression was to call the social attention and provoque the leaving of prison. The number of objects variod from, 3 to 39, all metalic, the larger being of 15 cms. All patients were assisted by a by a psychiatric who determined psychic disorder in 100 %. The expectant behavior prevailed. Only two patients were operated.
