Abstract

ABSTRACT A descriptive study was performed for characterizing clinical and tomographic behaviour of the ischemic cerebrovascular disease from 2001 to 2002 at the Provincial Hospital of Camagüey. The universe was of 120 patients whose data were processed by Microstat programam. The most affected sex was the masculine (55 %) as well as the age group of 60years and over (80, 83 %) The most frequent risk factors were arterial hypertension, smoking and central obesity. Thromboctic cerebral infarction presented in 76, 6 % of the universe while the prevailing tomographic diagnosis was that of the hypodense zone. Only in the 0, 83 % of patients with clinical diagnosis of cerebral thrombosis it was found e hyperdense zone in the tomography. The majority of sick patients were discharged alive (76, 66 %), out of the 7, 5 % that presented hyperdense zone, the 6, 66 % deceased.
