Abstract

A prospective, cross-sectional and descriptive study was carried out, with a universe of 341 patients operated for hip fracture in the Orthopedics and Traumatology service at Salvador Alende Hospital in Havana city, during the period from april 1st, 2001 to 2002. The sample was composed of 94 patients (24, 6 %) older than 60 years and residents of Cerro municipality. From the psychological point of view, normal and recovered persons prevailed. In the social sphere and its relationship with recovering, it was obtained that loveliness and widowhood with 8 and 14 patients, respectively presented a partial recovering, while 21 married patients recovered, presented a total family support. When evaluating the working sphere was a prevalence of recovered and retired patients, with 28 cases.
