CAMPOS PUJAL, Guillermo; GUTIERREZ CANDELARIO, Zoilamis; PILA PEREZ, Rafael and PILA PELAEZ, Rafael. Fine needle aspiration biopsy in patients with suspicion of lung neoplasia. AMC [online]. 2004, vol.8, n.4, pp. 82-91. ISSN 1025-0255.
A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out from January 2001 to December 2002 at Amalia Simoni Hospital of Camagüey in 56 patients with suspicion of lung neoplasia to whom Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy (FNAB) was practiced. The procedure was performed by a multidisciplinary team of pneumologists, clinicians, radiologists and pathologists. The sample resulted to be useful in more than 92 % of patients, the most frequent localization sites were the superior lobules and the most valuable were those of the inferior. Positive diagnosis was obtained in 75 % of the sick. It was corroborated anatomopathologically in the 75 % of 4 cases to whom FNAB, thoracotomy and biobsy of the piece, were practiced. The number of complications was low in 5, 36 % the most frequent were pneumothorax and hemoptysis.
