Abstract

LIMA ALVAREZ, Magda; ROMERO ZALDIVAR, Esperanza  and  PEREZ CEDERRON, Ricardo Alberto. Deforming oral habits in the health clinic of the family physician in Camagüey, Cuba. AMC [online]. 2004, vol.8, n.4, pp.101-110. ISSN 1025-0255.

An interventional study was carried out in the population from 5 to 18 years old of the health clinic # 18, West area of Camagüey city from November 1998 to January 20001 with the aim of evaluating the decrease of deforming oral habits, determining in the population studied the type of occlusion as to age groups; identifying deforming oral habits present and relating them with the type of occlusion. The universe was composed of 96 patients, 84 out of them were surveyed, interconsulted and treated in primary care or remitted to second level of care. The 71, 43 % presented maloclussions, the most affected were patients belonging to the age group among 8 to 10 years (40, 48 %). Deforming oral habits were found in the 75 % with prevalence of combinations. It was proved a favorable change in the health state of population from the beginning to the ending of study when deforming oral habits and combinations of them decreased and passed to simple habits.
