RODRIGUEZ PEREZ, Iván; YERA LOYOLA, Lourdes Elena; DE LEON ORTIZ, Manuel Arturo  and  MACHADO GARCIA, Jorge Luis. Acute renal failure in the patient surgically intervened in the Intensive Care Unit. AMC [online]. 2005, vol.9, n.2, pp. 85-93. ISSN 1025-0255.

In order to determine the acute renal insufficiency rate and its accompanying death rate, the type of surgery undergone by patients, and the causes for death, a descriptive study was conducted from January 1 to December 2002 on 40 patients who, having been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Manuel Ascunce Provincial Hospital, developed acute renal insufficiency after surgery. Serum creatinina contents and diuresis were measured on a daily basis. Shock-based acute renal insufficiency occurred as a complication after abdominal surgery among 16, 2 % of patients, of whom, those over 65, were the most affected ones 80 % of male patients kept the urinary volume as a better chance for recovery. The death rate was 30 %.
