AGUERO RODRIGUEZ, Manuel Antonio; GONZALEZ CUESTA, Jorge Arturo; RAMIREZ LABRADA, Félix Alejandro and MARRERO GIL, Julia. Morbility of the surgery patient at the intensive care unit. AMC [online]. 2005, vol.9, n.5, pp. 46-53. ISSN 1025-0255.
A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2002 to December 2003 at the Intensive Care Unit of the Amalia Simoni General Hospital to assess the morbimortality rate of patients that have undergone surgery. The universe was that of patients being admitted to the service in the period. Septic shock was the prevailing cause of death whereas acute kidney failure was the prevailing complication. It should be noted that the shorter the after surgery stay the longer the survival span: A percentage of patients reoperated on did not survive, being suture dehiscence the major cause for it.
