Abstract
PILA PEREZ, Rafael; PILA PELAEZ, Rafael; VAZQUEZ PEREZ, Luis Alberto and PEREZ MARRERO, Caridad. Adverse reaction to allopurinol: A case report. AMC [online]. 2005, vol.9, n.5, pp. 102-109. ISSN 1025-0255.
A feminine patient of 21 years old with treatment with allopurinol for hiperuricemia, 300mg daily, is presented. She showed adverse reaction to the drug, mainly digestive, cutaneous and laboratory disorders with leukopenia and thrombocytopenia which improved with steroids and antihistamines; this reaction is infrequent in the current medicine. In patients that suffer for recurrent episodes of gout, chronic tofacea gout or renal gout disease, allopurinol is very useful but when beginning treatment it should be given with antinflammatory non-steroid low dosis drugs so as to avoid precipitation of an acute episode. We carried out a review of the adverse effects of this drug and some consideration of it.
