Abstract
ARIAS HERRERA, Sury R.; MUNOZ FERNANDEZ, Liset M.; ROMERO GONZALEZ, Carmen M. and ESPESO NAPOLES, Nelia. Mouth care communication life for education and for parents of children with mild mental retardation. AMC [online]. 2005, vol.9, n.6, pp. 44-55. ISSN 1025-0255.
As care for the handicapped with special communicative needs is in growing demand, an observational, causative, descriptive study was conducted in the Municipality of Camagüey from September 2003 to April 2004 to design at program aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and at preventing mouth diseases. The 87-children sample was assessed through affection-involving training. Both parents’ and teachers’ awareness of mouth care status was assessed as well. Descriptive statistical data were gathered and grouped according to frequency (either absolute figures or percentages). Community involvement was encouraged for problem-setting and solving according to priority standards. Since it became evident that parents and educators must stress upon children mouth care education, a mouth care communication program was designed.
