Abstract

REYES BALSEIRO, Evelio Salvador; VILALLONGA RECINO, Pedro; BALSEIRO, Noris  and  VINAS SIFONTES, Leyda. Vascular hypertensive disease in Nuevitas a five-year study. AMC [online]. 2006, vol.10, n.1, pp. 85-96. ISSN 1025-0255.

Background:  A paired case control study (1:2) was conducted to asses risk factors for pregnancy-induced hypertensive vascular disease in Nuevitas from 1999-2003. Data processing was performed through statistic program packages Microstat and Epidat. The prevalent gestational age was 20-35 years (76.12 %), whereas the prevalent hypertension type was preeclampsia /eclampsia (73.13 %). Risk factors, listed in frequency order were as follows: a past history of gestational hypertension (OR 18.034; p=0.000), a past history of high blood pressure (OR 8.772; p=0.000) and ever weight gain (OR 3.486; p=0.000). Perinatal morbility was found to be high in patients with pregnancy-induced vascular hypertension (OR 10.241; p= 0.000).

Keywords : VASCULAR DISEASES; HYPERTENSION; PREGNANCY; RISK FACTORS; CESAREAN SECTION; CASE CONTROL STUDIES.
