Abstract

CHAVEZ PARDO, Iris; SANZ PEREZ, Raúl; GONZALEZ RODRIGUEZ, Noris Thais  and  RODRIGUEZ BENCOMO, Dania de Jesús. A study of vitreous degenerations and of peripheral degeneration in myopia. AMC [online]. 2006, vol.10, n.2, pp.96-105. ISSN 1025-0255.

A cross-sectional, descriptive study of 50 patients aged 20-50 sorted into 5 refractive defect groups diagnosed Service of the Manuel Ascunce General Hospital. Once the myopic stage was assessed, along with retina layer degeneration, a relation was established between peripheral degeneration and vitreous body disorders (liquefaction, syneresis, posterior, vitreous breaks - either full or partial), and myopic statistic significance in the highest stage of myopia were assessed, peripheral degeneration of the inner layer of the retina is related statistically to liquefaction, syneresis, and posterior vitreous breaks as well as to disorders of the outer layer. The number of eyes and the five groups of dioptries were assessed through charts. It was concluded that the higher the myopic stage, the greater the degeneration of the vitreous and the peripheral degeneration of both outer and the inner layers of the retina.
