Abstract

An intervention study was conducted to assess the impact of an educative strategie on oral health of patients that carry a total denture or a partial removable prosthesis, 43 persons who are provided health care area at the physician office 12 of the western primary health care area of the Municipally of Camagüey were enrolled as the universe of the study, which was conducted from April 2002 to September 2003. All patients were interview on the basis of the O′ Leary Rate for efficiency in tooth brushing and the Vgild Rate for the assessment of denture hygiene. Awareness of oral hygiene standards improved in 74,4 % of patients, whereas it was rated as good for more than half of dentures. Efficiency of dental brushing was rated acceptable. The study group rated as beneficial the educative program, which, according to them, fulfilled their expectations in such a way that they intend to promote the program at a community level. The education strategie had a positive impact on denture carrying patients.
