Abstract

A phase 2 clinical trial was conducted in patients with psychogenic at the outpatients Psychiatry Service of the Dr. Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja Hospital, city of Camagüey, from July 2001 to July2003. 68 patients with psychogenic erectile sexual dysfunction, whose diagnosis was deficiency syndrome, were enrolled in the sample. Patients underwent acupuncture and moxibustion in previously selected points so as to show the efficiency of such a therapies. Erectile sexual dysfunction prevailed groups aged 51 to 60 (54,41 %), symptoms that prevailed were depression (67. 65 %) and insomnia (57,35 %), prevailing follow-up timeline was less than 1 year, a satisfactory response to treatment prevailed, whereas a nonsatisfactory response prevailed among those with more than 5 year follow-up, postpunctural effect and bleeding prevailed as adverse reactions (17 and 19 patients respectively). Almost the totality of patients from the less than 1 year follow-up showed a satisfactory response. Acupuncture therapy was effective for the majority of patients.
