A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted at three family practioner offices that are branched to the Tula Aguilera Polyclinic, Municipality of Camagüey, throughout the year 2002 in order to characterize the stratification of risk for cardiovascular disorders in 285 hypertensives. Clinical records and family histories were the main source for data, which were printed in a survey sheet and the processed in a computer. Almost 90 % of hypertensives were aged 30-59, with no distinction between sexes. A family history of cardiovascular disorder (61,76 %) and smoking (51,14 %) prevailed as risk factors, whereas lefts ventricular hypertrophy (21,84 %), angina or a previous cardiac infarction (13,86 %), and retinopathy (12,6 %) were the prevailing target organ damages or cardiovascular diseases. It was concluded that Stage 1 Hypertension, Risk B group prevailed among stratificable categories.
