A prospective and longitudinal study to 654 patients that entered in Guiteras Service at "Eduardo Agramonte Piña" Paediatric Hospital was carried out, from January 1993 to June 2003. It was indicated them 2mg/kg of zinc sulphate in daily syrup to 325 patients with the objective to know the benefits of this oligoelement in the diarrheic persistent illness. At the conclusion of the study was verified that the 29.23% of the supplemented patients had a better and faster nutritious recovery and the 71.79% gained in weight and enlarged the appetite. Besides in these patients the number of depositions was smaller, as well as the duration of the episode. The consistency of the depositions at the third day of treatment, in the group that received micronutrients recovered in the 56.92%, which shows that the supplementation with this microelement is vital for the recovery of the diarrheic picture in the boy.
