Abstract

PEREZ ALVAREZ, Luis  and  MENDIONDO RAMOS, Patricia. Infantile paralysis: it´s impact on the emotional adjustment and mother´s social performance. AMC [online]. 2007, vol.11, n.5. ISSN 1025-0255.

A cross-sectional descriptive study with the objective to assess the behavior of emotional and social factors in 30 mothers of children carriers of infintile paralysis was carried out. The 100% of the interviewees referred that child´s disease constituted a serious problem, in a 73.33% affected the emotional adjustment, the 90.47% of the ones who worked stop doing it. By applying Dembo Rubinstein autovaluation scale, the 100% was below the midpoint of the scale of happiness and referred character changes. In the psychometric test of ten desires the 100% considered as their most important desire was to see their son improve. In applying the R B Catell Autoanlysis Model the 100% a high level of anxiety was appreciated. It is important to investigate on how the disability in offspring affects parents to implement measures that would help them to face this situation.
