Abstract

A phase II early clinical-therapeutic trial was conducted (experimental study) with the objective to determine the effectiveness of acupuncture analgesia in the periodontal surgical treatments: smoothed radicular, excisional technique for the new insertion (ENAP) and Kirkland flap without vertical incision. Thirty-two patients from both sexes that depended on the mentioned periodontal surgical techniques and met with the inclusion criteria of the investigation were studied, acupuncture analgesia was applied to all the patients. The result of the treatment was clinically assessed according to the established parameters in the utilized scale. The effectiveness of the acupuncture technique was determined by the predominance of the satisfactory responses to this procedure that had the major value in the smoothed radicular. Complications were identified, but were minimal; bleeding in the site of puncture was the most frequent one.
