Abstract

Background: The cerebral palsy constitutes a frequent cause of permanent disability in childlike population. Objective: To know the incidence of the infantile cerebral palsy. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study in the period between 1986 to 2003 was carried out, in nine health areas of Camagüey municipality. Results: It was shown that while the mortality rate had a tendency to be reduced, the cerebral palsy rate tended to be increased, reaching in 2003 the figure of 3.56 for thousand live birth. In all the health areas there was a tendency to increase the incidence, but the increment values were not the same in all the areas, oscillating the rates among values of 3.89 in the Central area and 1.67 in the Western area. Conclusions: To know its incident allows to establish a strategy for its integral management
