Background: Cardiac arrhythmias constitute an important intervention cause at the Intensive Care and Coronary Units. Objective: To know the behavior of cardiac tachyrhythmia in these services. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out to 87 patients with cardiac tachyrhythmia admitted in the Intensive and Intermediate Therapy Services at "Amalia Simoni Argilagos" Educational Surgical Clinical Hospital of Camagüey province from January 2004 to December 2006. The individual medical histories and the dead necropsy protocols constituted the primary source of information. Results: The auricular fibrillation was the most frequent arrhythmia (70,1%) and the ischemic heart disease the identifying cause of greater importance (27,6%). The 75.8% of the sickpeople presented hemodynamic instability and in the 89.7% was utilized as therapeutic variant the antiarrhythmic drugs, the digoxin was the most antiarrhythmic used. Conclusions: The cardioembolic phenomena constituted the most important complication and the arrhythmia itself the main cause of death.
