Abstract

Background: the prevalence of the non transmissible diseases has gone in ascent because of the changes in lifestyles and in population's aging. The risk of death increases as the glomerular filtration rate diminishes. Objective: to know the behavior of the cardiovascular morbimortality since constitutes the first cause of death in patients in hemodialysis. Method: a descriptive study with 453 patients with terminal chronic renal insufficiency in Purifying Methods in the Nephrology Service at the Provincial Hospital “Manuel Ascunce Domenech” of Camagüey, was conducted from January 1st 2004 to December 31st 2007. Results: data collections were carried out through the clinical histories. The masculine sex prevailed with 236 patients for 52,10%. Conclusions: masculine patients prevailed, the most frequent cause of renal insufficiency was Diabetic Nephropathy and high blood pressure the predominant cardiovascular risk factor.
