Abstract

Background: the subprosthesis stomatitis constitutes a risk factor for the appearance of premalignant and malignant lesions of the buccal cavity. It is more and more worrying for the stomatological services their prevalence, because this implies affection of the normal functions, like the mastication, phonation and esthetics. Objective: to determine the behavior of the subprosthesis stomatitis in patients of the University Polyclinic "Julio Antonio Mella." Method: a descriptive cross-sectional study in patients carriers of dental prosthesis was performed. The universe was constituted by the five hundred eighty six patients carriers of dental prosthesis that came to the stomatology consultation from August to December 2008. The two hundred eighty two patients that carried the disease constituted formed the sample. To each patient was carried out their clinical individual history and also were applied to them a form validated by pilotage, what constituted a useful source for the obtaining of the wanted ends. Results: cases of III grade didn't show up, either in lower jaw. There was significant difference of the female sex regarding the masculine ones. Conclusions: the average age of the patients affected by this disease was between thirty five and forty four years in both groups and with prevalence for the feminine sex. The continuous use of the prosthesis, the deficient oral hygiene and the consumption of hot foods, were the noxious habits of more frequency. The preferable localization of the subprosthesis stomatitis was in the half area of the palatine vault.
