Abstract

Background: the adolescence is usually the age of the contradictions and incomprehensions. More than ten percent of the births that are register annually in the world take place in adolescent mothers. Objective: to contribute to elevate the level of knowledge about pregnancy and its risks in the adolescence. Method: an educational intervention study in pregnant adolescents was conducted at "Tula Aguilera" Polyclinic of Camagüey province, in 2008. The study universe was constituted by ninety-seven pregnant adolescents. A probabilistic sampling to seventy pregnant adolescents was applied as well as an initial questionnaire. Later an Educational Program on the considered aspects of interest was implanted and three months after the same questionnaire was applied. Results: before the educational intervention, the intra-uterine devices as contraceptive method, the injectable ones and the use of condoms were recognized. The rupture of the vaginal tract, low birth weight and in a low percent high blood pressure and abortion were recognized inside the biological risks. A reduced number only in the first survey recognized, preoccupations, desperation, frustrations and unhappiness. More than the half accepted that could affect family relationships. Conclusions: the ignorance about the use of the different contraceptive methods prevailed and the biological, psychological and socioeconomic risks to which were exposed during pregnancy, what was reformed after having finished the Educational Program.
