Abstract

Any definitive fixed partial prosthetic treatment, needs of a technique and appropriate material to achieve an intimate approach among the dental structure and the restoration. This has given raise to searches of the ideal cement, because the 50% of the success in the longevity of the definitive aesthetic restorations is attributed to the cementation. In these last years, the glass ionomers constitute materials that more have experienced changes to improve their properties. A bibliographical review about the origin, classification, presentation forms, and composition, setting reaction, properties, indications and cementation technique was carried out. This will constitute a guide for the prosthesist, because this material of excellent qualities is not very well-known in clinic.
